HOW TO GET YOUR WORK SHOWN AT EXPLODING CINEMA As we are truly Open Access we are not going to turn you away - as long as you follow these simple guidelines. PLEASE read all of this as then you will know how to set about things, and what we have to offer. Our submission form is HERE.
LENGTH we can only show work that is NO LONGER than 30 minutes (seeing as we try to screen 15-20 items each show!)
FORMAT We can show films on DVD or VHS (NTSC as well as PAL). If you have a DV tape you are welcome to bring down a camera or player and plug it into our system. rest assured, we have an EXCELLENT video projector/sound system.
CELLULOID - REAL FILM We LOVE to screen Celluloid and have excellent 16mm and Super 8/standard 8 projectors ( the 16mm with optical sound, the super 8 with mag stripe sound- or you can play your soundtrack on cassette or cd) Also 35mm slide projectors. If you want to do something on multiple screens or with double projections you may have to bring some additional equipment of your own, or not, but contact us about this.
PERFORMANCE WORK This must also be less than 20 mins- we are not primarily a performance exhibition initiative, and so are not an 'open access' event for performance or poetry reading or musicians - BUT- if your work incorporates an element of PROJECTION - we will get very excited and welcome you with open arms! SO- if you are really keen to do something, and say, you are primarily music based- why not team up with someone to do projections? Contact us to negotiate. Also- sometimes when we do bigger shows we have space for installations or longer performance - so write to us about this too if you have a clear idea.
WHERE TO SEND IT? Please send us a tape (if it is on video) first. PLEASE label the tape very thoroughly- with the name of the piece, the running time, and your name, on the SPINE of the video cassette as well as the box. You can send additional info if you like to help us make up the booklet - a one or 2 line comment on the work is great. Also include your CONTACT DETAILS on the actual tape, as well as in any correspondence. Telephone, e mail ( if you have it) and Street address. If it is film you want to show we can arrange for you to drop it off at or before the show if you don't want to post it.

Anxious to know if it's arrived with us? We don't normally contact you when we receive your tape,- the programmer will get in contact with you a couple of weeks or so before your screening, so relax. But if you are very anxious to know, then you can either a) put a stamped, self -addressed postcard in with your package, or b) send us an e mail stating clearly, to WHICH ADDRESS you sent the packet and WHEN, and the person answering the e mails will find out for you and e mail you back.
WHEN WILL YOUR WORK BE SHOWN? We generally programme on a 'first come first served' basis- so if there is a big backlog of work you may not be in our next show- you may have to wait .... Generally the shorter the work, the more likely it will be shown in the next show. We will prioritise Celluloid, and care for it lovingly. If you send in several pieces all at once, or a compilation tape we will not usually screen them all - our first instinct will be for the programmer to choose to screen their favourite! So if you don't want this to happen make it clear what you want screened MOST. We can stagger a few of the pieces over the next few shows- but remember we have a lot of work to screen and want to be fair and make space for all.
PLEASE COME TO THE SHOW AND DON'T FORGET TO PICK UP YOUR FILM/TAPE!!! As we offer you such a wonderful show for your work- keen audience currently of 150 -200, lovely venue, the VERY BEST projection- We expect YOU as an honoured guest - (you plus one get in for FREE!) to come to the show. YOU make the shows what they are and the atmosphere is especially good when all the film makers are present.

 

WANT TO GET YOUR WORK BACK?
If you can't make it to the show, and you want your work back after the screening, then please send us a Stamped Addressed Packet. If you come to the show but FORGET to pick up your work,(pick it up from the projectionist) - you'll just have to talk to the programmer and negotiate beg/grovel... If you know you can't make it to the show, and you want a keepsake, then we will send you the lovely little programme booklet, that lists your work and has some cute cut and paste pictures FREE OF CHARGE!!! Just make it clear to the programmer when they contact you that this is what you'd like. We can't screen work that is not on the right format or too long!
